On 5 September 2025, the school hall at Evaton Primary School came alive with energy, focus, and excitement. Tshiamiso Astronauts, a community-based organisation in Evaton West, hosted its very first Spelling Bee Evaton — a landmark event designed to strengthen youth literacy in South Africa and celebrate the power of words.
Why do spelling bees matter? They are more than contests. They are gateways to literacy development, confidence, cultural pride, and lifelong learning. For learners in our community, this event was a chance to showcase talent, embrace discipline, and step into the spotlight.
